A 24-year-old man was arrested in the Caratoíra neighbourhood of Vitória, Espírito Santo, on the afternoon of Saturday 31 October 2026, with a submachine gun and drugs.[1] The Military Police said the semi-industrial weapon was loaded and ready for use.[1] Officers of the 1st Battalion were patrolling an area the force calls a drug sales point when they saw the man enter a house with a gun in one hand and a bag in the other.[1] When he noticed the police approach, he ignored the order to stop and threw the submachine gun and the bag into a neighbouring property’s yard; the officers caught and stopped him.[2] With the resident’s permission, the officers entered the yard and recovered the material.[1]

Besides the weapon, officers seized two magazines and a precision scale.[1] He and the seized items were taken to the 1st Regional Police Station of Vitória.[1]

It was the second submachine gun seized in Caratoíra in less than a week.[1] On Monday 26 October, the Tactical Force of the same battalion arrested a 23-year-old in the neighbourhood with a semi-industrial submachine gun, two magazines holding 39 intact .380 rounds and two mobile phones, the Espírito Santo public security secretariat said.[1] The two cases involve different men and different seizures.[1] Brazil’s drug law 11.343/2006 sets five to 15 years in prison for trafficking, while illegal possession of a weapon carries two to four years, or three to six if it is classed as restricted use.[1]
