Federal Highway Police (Polícia Rodoviária Federal, PRF) arrested a 19-year-old on the morning of Friday the 30th after catching him transporting 24.4 kilograms of skunk on a bus on the Trans-Amazonian Highway (BR-230), in the municipality of Altamira, in southwestern Pará.[1][2] The drug was divided into 23 tablets and was found during a PRF inspection.[1][2]

According to the PRF, the stop took place at about 6 a.m. at kilometre 646 of the highway.[1][2] Officers were checking a bus travelling from Santarém to Marabá when they noticed a strong smell of a chemical product coming from a suitcase stored in the luggage compartment.[1]

During the search, police found eight skunk tablets inside the suitcase, while another 15 were in a backpack with the suspect, who is from Manaus, in Amazonas.[1][2] The agents questioned him about the seized material and he confessed that he had been paid 5,000 reais to transport the drug to the municipality of Marabá.[1][2]

After the seizure, the passenger was taken, together with the drug, to the Civil Police station in Altamira, where legal procedures were carried out.[1][2] The case remains under investigation.[1]

The substance is popularly known as ‘supermaconha’ because it is modified in a laboratory.[2]
