National Police officers arrested two people in flagrante in Viterbo, Caldas, during two separate road-check procedures.[1] Those detained were a 30-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man, who were travelling as motorcycle passengers when officers intercepted the motorcycles.[1] The operations took place at the Asia roundabout sector, where officers were checking vehicles and people during the All Saints’ holiday weekend.[1]
In the first check, officers stopped a motorcycle carrying two people and found a backpack on the woman travelling as a passenger containing two plastic bags with 960 grams of marijuana.[1] Police said preliminary checks indicated that motorcycle was travelling from Cartago, Valle del Cauca, toward Anserma, Caldas.[1] In a second check at the same spot, officers intercepted another motorcycle on which a 20-year-old was travelling as a passenger and found a sack containing 992 grams of marijuana.[1] Police said preliminary information indicated that load had left La Virginia, Risaralda, and was bound for Viterbo.[1] Together the two seizures totalled 1,952 grams of marijuana, about 1.95 kilograms, according to the authorities.[1]
Both detainees were placed with the seized drug at the disposal of the competent judicial authority on suspicion of drug trafficking, manufacture or carrying.[1] Police had reported no judicial decision on their legal situation.[1] The force said it would keep controls on Caldas’s main road corridors during the holiday to detect drug transport and prevent other crimes, as part of surveillance on routes linking Caldas with Risaralda and Valle del Cauca.[1]
