Two men aged 18 and 19 were detained on foot in the El Resumen sector of Cúcuta, near the San Jorge military canton.[1] Soldiers of the National Army stopped them during registration and control activities and called for police support.[2] Officers from CAI San Rafael, the Immediate Attention Command, took over the procedure.[1] The two detainees and what they were carrying were taken to the Immediate Reaction Unit (URI) of the Attorney General’s Office.[2] There they were placed at the disposal of the competent authority while their judicial situation is decided.[2]

They were found carrying a package holding about 500 grams of plant material appearing to be marijuana.[2] The case was announced by Col. Pedro José Saavedra Pinzón, commander of the Cúcuta Metropolitan Police (Mecuc).[2] According to the commander, the package held plant material with characteristics similar to marijuana and it was seized, with an approximate weight of 500 grams.[1]

Saavedra Pinzón said operations and controls continue in coordination with other institutions to counter drug trafficking and keep the substances from reaching communities.[2] He said the procedure forms part of the Urban Security Operational Block, a strategy to strengthen security and citizen coexistence.[2] He asked residents to report suspicious situations or crimes on emergency line 123.[2]
