The arrest took place in Santa Fe, one of Bogotá’s administrative localities.[1] Officers found 2,140 grams of marijuana in the boot of the taxi the pair were travelling in, in packages wrapped in paper and cardboard.[2] The two told officers they were a couple, and were stopped during a patrol, registration and control check.[1]

Both were arrested in flagrante (caught in the act) and left, with the drug, at the disposal of the competent authority.[3] The reports name no charges or court hearing, and note that an arrest is not in itself a finding of guilt.[2] The woman told officers her parents were being held over homicide and theft investigations.[2] The reports gave no detail to confirm that account.[2]

The case was one of the patrol, registration and control operations Bogotá police run across the city to detect the transport and distribution of illegal drugs.[2] Investigations were to establish where the marijuana came from and where the load was going.[2]
