Police in Varese arrested one man for possessing drugs for sale and reported a second man at liberty for complicity in the same offence.[1] The investigation began with a report about an Instagram story in which a man whose face was hidden handled a small-calibre pistol alongside large sums of cash and threatening phrases.[1] Investigators of the Squadra Mobile, the police force’s mobile squad, identified the user of the profile and searched his home, finding only a small amount of hashish.[1]

Analysis of the location data in photographs taken with the man’s phone led officers to a second flat linked to another man.[1] A search of the second flat found drugs and materials for packing doses inside a wardrobe.[1] During questioning both men said the drugs and seized material belonged to the first suspect, who had left them temporarily in the other man’s custody.[1] The operation seized 35 grams of hashish, the cannabis component of the case.[1]

Il Giorno reported the arrested man as about 30 years old and said some of the video’s threats were aimed at law-enforcement officers.[2] Il Tradate, a local outlet, described the second flat as a drug depot and said the owner of the drugs was taken to Varese’s prison while the other man was reported at liberty.[3]

Telegraf, a Slovenian outlet citing Il Giorno, reported that the police initially found only a small amount of hashish at the suspect’s home.[4]
