State police arrested a 23-year-old man from Catania for possession of narcotics with intent to deal.[1][2][3] The operation was carried out in Via Antico Corso by officers of the Mobile Squad’s fourth section dealing with widespread crime.[1][2][3] Officers on patrol noticed the young man walking with a shoulder bag and acting suspiciously, then stopped him for a check.[1][2] During the check officers noticed a visible bulge at the front of his sweatshirt and asked him to lift it.[1][2]

Under the sweatshirt he was hiding a large vacuum-sealed heat-sealed plastic bag containing 58 grams of marijuana.[1][2] A personal search of his shoulder bag found another small bag with 5.70 grams of marijuana and 30 euros in cash considered proceeds of the offence.[1][2]

Database checks showed he had prior drug and resisting-a-public-official offences and had already received an oral warning from the Catania police commissioner.[1][2] After being informed, the duty public prosecutor ordered house arrest at his home pending a validation hearing before the preliminary-investigations judge.[1][2]
