State police in Lentini arrested a young man accused of possessing drugs with intent to deal.[1] The arrest followed a targeted home search assisted by drug-sniffer dogs.[2] Officers placed the young man at the disposal of the judicial authority.[1]

During the search officers seized 43.9 grams of marijuana divided into eight packets.[1] In the same house officers also seized 16.4 grams of ecstasy already divided into 46 doses and one gram of cocaine.[3] Officers also seized material used to package drugs and 5,330 euros in cash that investigators considered likely proceeds of dealing.[3] Police also found material used for weighing and preparing doses in the home.[4] Police describe ecstasy, known as the droga dello sballo, as a synthetic psychoactive substance with hallucinogenic properties known for its short- and long-term danger.[2]

The operation was carried out by the Siracusa Mobile Squad and the Lentini police station with support from State Police canine units from Catania.[1] Police said the operation formed part of services countering the sale and consumption of drugs.[2]
