Police in Sragen detained a man from Jetak village in Sidoharjo after finding 25 cannabis stalks growing around his house.[1][2] The man, identified only by the initials BW, is now in police custody.[1] Sragen police chief AKBP Heru Antariksa Cahya said BW lives in Sidoharjo district in Sragen.[1] Investigators charged BW under Article 114 paragraph (2) of the 2009 Narcotics Law in conjunction with the 2023 Criminal Code and the 2026 sentence-adjustment law.[1] Under that charge, police said he faces the most severe penalty of death.[1]
Police said they seized from BW at least 25 cannabis stalks and four cannabis seedlings plus 15.8 grams of dried cannabis.[1][2] Police displayed the seized 25 plants at Sragen police headquarters on 4 November 2026 together with the seedlings and dried cannabis.[1]
The Sragen district police narcotics chief AKP Sudarmiyanto said BW received cannabis seeds from a man from Aceh named Juan in Solo in April 2026.[1] BW met Juan in Mangkunegaran in Keprabon village, Banjarsari district, Solo.[1] Juan gave BW the cannabis seeds during a holiday outing.[1] BW first sowed the cannabis seeds in a small basin.[1][2] After receiving the seeds, he planted them around his house.[1] The plants were four to five months old and were intended for New Year celebrations.[1]
Police searched the suspect’s house at Dukuh Jetak Tani RT 1 RW 4, Jetak Village, Sidoharjo, Sragen on Saturday 24 October 2026 at 20.30 after receiving information from the public.[2] The suspect grew the plants in used mineral-water gallon containers in an alley between his house and his neighbour’s house that was closed at the front so it could not be seen, accessible only through the suspect’s house window.[2] Police calculated the 25 seized cannabis plants as weighing 5 kg with a sale value reaching Rp 250 million.[2] The suspect was charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) of the 2009 Narcotics Law or alternatively Article 111 paragraph (2), carrying a maximum penalty of death, life imprisonment and a maximum of 20 years.[2]
