East Aceh drug investigators arrested a 45-year-old farmer identified as AA for allegedly growing cannabis among chili plants in Gampong Cek Mbon, Peureulak, East Aceh.[1] Officers went to a hut in the chili garden to examine the site, where AA admitted growing the cannabis and showed them where it was planted among the chili.[1] Investigators said AA told them he planted the cannabis without the chili-field owner’s knowledge.[1] AA and the seized plants were then taken to the East Aceh police headquarters for further legal proceedings.[1]

East Aceh police chief AKBP Aris Cai Dwi Susanto said officers seized 23 cannabis plants estimated to be about two months old.[1] Police said the plants were allegedly deliberately concealed among the chili crop to avoid easy detection.[1] Police said the case began with a public tip received on Thursday (29/10), after which narcotics investigators searched the plantation area and found the cannabis.[1]

The police chief said his force is committed to eradicating narcotics abuse and trafficking, including illicit cultivation that could supply local circulation.[1] He said police will follow up accountable public information and pursue suspected narcotics offences under applicable law.[1] He also urged residents not to take part in planting, storing or distributing narcotics and to report suspicious narcotics-related activity to the authorities.[1]
