A joint team of Pesisir Selatan narcotics police and Linggo Sari Baganti criminal investigators arrested two men on suspicion of distributing narcotics of the sabu and ganja types, ganja being cannabis and sabu being methamphetamine.[1] The two men were identified only as FS, 25, and ODP, 27, and were stopped on the bridge at Kampung Tanjung Medan in Nagari Air Haji Tengah, Linggo Sari Baganti, a nagari being a village-level community in West Sumatra.[1] Police said the operation began after residents reported suspected drug transactions that were troubling the Linggo Sari Baganti area.[1] When officers reached the bridge they found FS and ODP there and detained them for checks on suspicion they were about to distribute narcotics.[2]

A search witnessed by local residents found nine packets of suspected sabu in the men’s hands, which are excluded from cannabis figures in this report.[1] A further body search of ODP found one packet of suspected ganja wrapped in clear clip plastic inside his trouser pocket.[1] Police also seized a black Honda Beat motorcycle, a hair-oil box, three sheets of papir rolling paper, a cigarette pack, a small-straw sabu spoon, a sabu needle, a pirex glass pipe and two Oppo Android phones as suspected related items.[1]

Both men and the seized items were taken to Linggo Sari Baganti police station for further investigation.[3] They are then to be handed over to Pesisir Selatan district police for further legal proceedings.[1] Police said both men were charged under Article 114 of Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics in conjunction with Article 609 of the Criminal Code and face six to 20 years in prison.[1] Investigators said the two men admitted the drugs and seized items were theirs, while police continue to trace the supply source and any wider network.[1]
