San Luis Potosí’s Guardia Civil Estatal, the state civil guard, detained 23 people over 24 hours, the force said.[1] It described the detentions as the result of permanent surveillance and crime-prevention operations, part of actions to strengthen security in San Luis Potosí.[1] The 23 were suspected of diverse criminal conduct.[1]

During the same interventions, state officers seized 644.3 grams of marijuana, 46 doses of a substance with characteristics similar to the drug known as crystal methamphetamine, and 15 artefacts known as ponchallantas, metal spikes used to puncture vehicle tyres, the force said.[1] They also recovered a vehicle that had been reported stolen.[1]

The Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana del Estado, the state security secretariat, said it would maintain prevention, surveillance and intelligence operations in all four regions of San Luis Potosí, to combat criminal activity, take objects that pose a risk out of circulation and contribute to the peace of mind and wellbeing of families in the state.[2]
