Monterrey municipal police detained Edinson “N”, a 41-year-old Colombian man, at about 19:10 at the crossing of Miguel Nieto and Pedro María Anaya in Colonia Industrial.[1] Officers on a prevention and surveillance patrol said they saw him drinking alcohol in the street, stopped the unit to approach him, and reported that he became annoyed when they searched him.[1]

During the search they seized 10 bags of green herb with characteristics similar to marijuana, and a metal hammer at his waist.[1] Police said they did not at first know why he was carrying the tool.[1]

They later said he is linked to an investigation into an alleged attack on a dog in the street, in which an object of similar characteristics was supposedly used.[1] The municipal force said the competent authority must decide whether he took part in the attack and in what circumstances.[1] No details were given on the dog’s condition, the date of the alleged attack, or how the inquiry began.[1]

After the stop he was taken to Monterrey police premises and left with the corresponding authority to decide his legal situation.[1] The force said the detention was part of Estrategia Escudo, under which it keeps preventive patrols in different parts of the city.[1]
