On Tuesday 27 October, patrol officers of the Sierpc police noticed a Volkswagen driver in Sierpc who abruptly changed direction on seeing a marked patrol car and moved to stop him for a check.[1] The driver was a 26-year-old resident of Sierpc, and officers smelled a strong odour of marijuana from him during the check.[1]

Police found several small bags in his trouser pocket, and a drug test identified the seized substances as marijuana and amphetamine.[2] The account attributes the details to Asp. Szt. Katarzyna Krukowska, the press officer of the Sierpc police.[2] A saliva test for intoxicants was positive, so police seized his driving licence and took blood for further testing on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.[2]

He was detained in a police cell for possessing the prohibited substances.[2] After evidence was gathered he was charged with drug possession, to which he confessed, an offence carrying up to 3 years’ imprisonment.[1] Whether he will also be charged with driving under the influence will be decided by the blood-test results.[1]
