In the province of Rome, police arrested 17 people in the act for possession of drugs for dealing, six Italians and eleven foreigners.[1] Three Italian citizens were instead reported for unlawful carrying of weapons or objects capable of offending.[2] During the Rome services officers identified 152 people, 25 minors and 127 adults, of whom 50 were Italian and 102 foreign, with nine adult foreigners found to be irregular on national territory.[1] The checks focused on the capital’s main nightlife areas, from San Lorenzo to Trastevere via Ponte Milvio, Termini and Colle Oppio, as well as public demonstrations.[1]

Officers carried out 26 personal searches and two home checks, seizing about five kilos of drugs between cocaine and hashish and 5,500 euros in cash.[2] During the checks officers also found three knives, pepper spray and two balaclavas, while 37 vehicles were checked with 27 administrative penalties imposed.[1]

The Rome checks were part of an activity coordinated by the Servizio centrale operativo involving the Mobile Squads across Italy that led to 644 arrests nationally, 575 adults and 69 minors.[1] Nationally in the same operation police reported 69.4 kilos of cocaine, 174.8 kilos of cannabinoids and 328.44 grams of heroin, plus smaller amounts of other drugs.[1] A separate line of inquiry into serious disorder on 1 July in largo Gaetana Agnesi led to searches in Pomezia seizing drugs, jewellery believed to be stolen, nunchaku and an air rifle.[1]
