Otwock traffic police detained a 45-year-old Peugeot driver who tried to avoid a road check.[1] The incident began in Józefów.[1] Officers of the traffic department noticed the Peugeot and decided to check the driver.[1] The driver first slowed as if he would obey the officers.[1] When an officer showed him where to stop safely, he accelerated sharply and fled.[1] Officers immediately set off after the fleeing car.[1] The pursuit ended in Otwock, where the traffic police stopped the Peugeot safely.[2]

The car was secured and towed to the police parking lot.[2] The driver had ignored four lifetime bans on driving imposed by a court.[1] A preliminary test indicated marijuana in his body, so officers took blood for further testing.[2] A records check showed he was wanted to serve a prison term of one year and three months.[2] He was charged with failing to stop for a road check and driving under the influence despite the court bans.[2] After the procedures he was taken to a prison, where he is to spend the next 15 months.[1]

The Wydział Ruchu Drogowego, Otwock’s traffic-police unit, handled the stop, and officer Patryk Domarecki said the driver tried to avoid control but was stopped after the pursuit with multiple violations found.[1] Police said decisive traffic-unit actions remove dangerous drivers from the roads.[1] They also announced continued daily sobriety checks and action against irresponsible road behaviour.[1]
