Security services arrested an unemployed man with a criminal record who lived in
the area of the Nasr City First police station after identifying him from a
social-media post.[1] The post, illustrated with photographs, complained that
he was publishing pictures of himself while using and dealing in drugs.[2]
Officers then found a quantity of hashish, cannabis resin, in his possession.[1] The Interior Ministry’s security apparatus said its inquiry began from that
circulating post.[3]
Confronted with the seizure, he admitted possessing the drugs in order to use
them.[1] He also said he had published the post on his own social-media page
in order to increase the number of views.[3] Officers took the legal
procedures required in the case.[2] The online complaint had alleged both use
and dealing, while the admission the security services recorded was possession
for use and posting the pictures for views.[1]
