A joint team of Nagan Raya district police and Indonesia’s National Narcotics Agency (BNN) destroyed a cannabis plantation estimated at 20 hectares in the mountains of Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh, on 31 October 2026.[1][2][3] The fields lay in Beutong district, in the mountains of the regency.[4] The operation was led by Nagan Raya police chief AKBP Muhamad Taufiq with joint police and BNN personnel.[4][2][3] Officers found no owner and no suspect at the sites.[5][3]

Police estimated the plantation at 20 hectares across three separate plots, the first of them about 10 hectares with plants up to 1.5 metres tall.[4][3] Plants at the second plot were about 1 metre high and at the third about 30 centimetres.[5][3] The team uprooted and burned the plants where they stood and carried some of the material to Nagan Raya police headquarters as evidence.[5][3]

Reaching the site took about four hours on trail motorcycles and another four hours on foot through mountain terrain.[5][3] The operation ended at 02:00 WIB, western Indonesian time, early on Sunday 1 November.[5][2][3] Nagan Raya police public relations officer Ipda Ari Arfandi, speaking for the police chief, said the operation showed that the police and BNN were serious about wiping out cannabis growing in the regency.[1][3] He asked residents to report cannabis planting, storage and dealing in their neighbourhoods.[5] The police said the fight against drugs needed the support and cooperation of the whole community.[5]
