Carabinieri in Militello Val di Catania arrested a 36-year-old local man in the act for possession of drugs with intent to deal and for breaching the house-arrest conditions he was under.[1] The man, already subject to detenzione domiciliare, a house-arrest measure, was transferred to the Caltagirone prison at the disposal of the judicial authority.[1]
During a dawn search of his home, officers found more than 250 grams of drugs consisting of hashish and marijuana hidden on the terrace and inside a desk, with two precision scales, a cutter and a mini cleaver described as packaging tools.[1] The anti-drug dog Hams of the Nicolosi canine unit proved decisive by signalling the presence of drugs on the terrace and inside a desk.[1] In the bedroom officers seized another precision scale, hemp seeds and 360 euros in cash.[1]
The operation began at dawn following investigative activity and was carried out by the Militello station with support from the Sicilia Hunter Squadron and the Nicolosi canine unit.[1] A second account of the same operation likewise reports that checks of the places signalled by the dog uncovered a total of more than 250 grams of drugs divided between hashish and marijuana.[2] The seized substance is to be examined by the Catania Carabinieri analysis laboratory, and the suspect remains presumed innocent until any final conviction.[1]
