Municipal police in Mazatlán detained a 51-year-old man from La Cruz de Elota after allegedly finding about one kilogram of marijuana inside a backpack he was carrying in the Fovissste Playa Azul neighborhood.[1] The detained man was identified as Raúl, and officers stopped him during a prevention and surveillance patrol on the streets Ahome and Sinaloa de Leyva in that settlement.[1] Police said they approached him for a preventive intervention after observing him allegedly consuming alcoholic drinks in public.[1]
During the inspection, officers searched his black backpack and found two bags containing a plant substance with characteristics similar to marijuana, with an approximate weight estimated at one kilogram.[1] When questioned about the backpack’s contents, Raúl said he was waiting for a person he knew by the nickname “El Pelón” and claimed he did not know what was inside the luggage he was carrying.[1] Following the discovery of the suspected drug, police detained him and seized the substance before transferring him to the corresponding authorities.[1]
He was placed at the disposition of the South Region Agency of the Public Prosecutor Specialized in Health Crimes, in its small-scale dealing modality, which will investigate and determine his legal situation for alleged crimes against health.[1] The ministerial authority will determine through the corresponding procedures the nature of the seized substance and any resulting legal responsibilities.[1]
