Guardia di Finanza officers arrested an Albanian citizen at Ciampino.[1] The operation was run by officers of the Guardia di Finanza provincial command in Rome after the man was seen leaving a basement room under the stairs of a dwelling and getting into a car registered to a heavily convicted person.[2] Officers stopped the car for a thorough check.[1] On the order of the on-duty prosecutor of the Velletri public prosecutor’s office, the man was arrested and taken to Velletri prison at the disposal of the judiciary.[1]

A detailed inspection found 300 grams of marijuana hidden in a double bottom built into the passenger-side airbag compartment.[1] Officers then extended the search to the basement room the man had been seen leaving shortly before.[1] Inside a refrigerator kept in that room, officers found another 1.3 kilos of hashish and 1 kilo of marijuana, together with precision scales and material for packaging doses.[1] The total seizure was reported as about 2.6 kilos of marijuana and hashish.[2] Officers also seized the car because it had been specially modified to transport and conceal drugs.[1]

The man was held on accusation of possession and trafficking of narcotic substances.[2] The operation began in the Ciampino locality when officers saw the man leave the basement and board the car.[1]
