Egypt’s cybercrime investigators detected a person running a social-media page that offered narcotic substances for sale for money.[1][2][3][4][5][6] The monitoring was conducted by the General Directorate for Combating Information Technology Crimes in the communications and information-technology sector, in coordination with the Public Security sector.[1][2][3][4][5][6] After checks, officers identified the page’s administrator as an unemployed man who lives in the Khanka police district in Qalyubia Governorate and arrested him.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

Officers seized a quantity of hashish found in his possession during the arrest.[1][2][3][4][5][6] They also seized a mobile phone, and examination of the phone showed material confirming his criminal activity.[1][3][4][5][6] The seized hashish is the cannabis product recorded in this report, while the phone was kept as evidence of the online promotion.[1]

When confronted, the man confessed that he ran the page to promote narcotic substances.[1][2][3][4][5][6] In Egyptian press usage, the word عاطل describes an unemployed person, the term used here for the Khanka suspect.[1] The enforcement action therefore linked online promotion of drugs for payment with physical possession of hashish in Khanka.[1]
