On 17 March 2026 Justice M.N. Yunusa of Federal High Court No. 2 in Kano sentenced Jonathan Nuhu,
45, a native of Kanke Village in Plateau State, to 15 years in prison for unlawful possession of
cannabis sativa.[1][2] The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s Kano Strategic Command said the
term runs from the date of judgment.[1][2]
NDLEA operatives had arrested Nuhu on 20 July 2023 near Wudil Bridge in Wudil Local Government Area
of Kano State and recovered 116 bags of cannabis from him.[1][2] After about three years of
investigation and prosecution the court found him guilty.[1][2]
The agency said he was a repeat offender: a Federal High Court in Jigawa State had already sentenced
him to 15 years on 22 June 2021 for a similar offence, and he was on bail pending appeal in that case
when he was arrested again in Kano.[1][2] NDLEA said further inquiries linked him to a wider network
moving cannabis across northern Nigeria.[1][2]
