Troops of Sector 3, Joint Task Force North East under Operation Hadin Kai, intercepted a suspected foreign drug courier and recovered illicit drugs, alcohol and other prohibited substances allegedly heading to terrorists in the Lake Chad Islands.[1][2]

The suspect, 48-year-old Rachael Samuel, a Chadian national from Kelo in Chari-Baguirmi Province, was arrested on Thursday 9 July during intensive search operations along the Maiduguri–Monguno axis while travelling toward Kwatan Doron Baga in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.[1][2] Acting Military Information Officer Captain Mohammed Goni disclosed the arrest in a statement on the Army’s official channel.[1][2]

Recovered from her were seven compressed bundles of suspected cannabis sativa weighing about 30 kilogrammes, two 10-litre containers of hydromercuric chloride (“Suck and Die”), a carton of 48 bottles of dry gin and 61 bottles of herbal alcoholic drinks, plus a phone, two ATM cards and cash, valued in total at millions of naira.[1][2] Preliminary findings indicate the consignment was bound for the Lake Chad Islands, where terrorist groups use drugs and intoxicants to stimulate fighters and suppress fear.[1][2] She remains in military custody with exhibits secured pending transfer to the appropriate agency.[1][2]
