The Hyderabad zonal unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence had developed specific intelligence about an Indian passenger flying into Hyderabad from Bangkok, Thailand on Monday 12 October, suspected of carrying high-grade hydroponic weed in his baggage.[1][2] Acting on that tip, DRI officers intercepted him after landing at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad and took up his check-in baggage for examination.[1][2]
Inside the baggage was an electric geyser, an unusual item for air luggage; when officers opened the appliance, they found 73 packets of a greenish substance weighing 7.750 kg packed inside it.[1][2] A narcotic drugs detection kit test on the substance indicated ganja, and the load was identified as high-grade hydroponic cannabis with an estimated illicit-market value of about Rs 2.71 crore.[1][2] The cannabis was seized, the passenger was arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act 1985, and the DRI said further investigation is in progress.[1][2]
