At dawn, Carabinieri of the Delianuova station, under the Palmi company, carried out an operation supported by provincial Carabinieri units, the Calabria helicopter-borne hunter squadron, the Vibo Valentia dog unit and intervention squads of the 12th Regiment Sicilia.[1] The operation was aimed at illegally held weapons and covered several homes in the area.[2] During the searches, officers arrested a young local man found with about 2.6 kg of marijuana that was being dried.[1] The search also turned up a precision scale and material for packaging the drug, which led to the arrest.[1] After the operation, the young man was taken to the Palmi prison at the disposal of the judicial authority.[1]

In further checks, officers found and seized a carbine and a hunting rifle, both with abraded serial numbers, along with various ammunition.[1] A 60-year-old local man was reported at liberty in connection with possessing material for making ammunition.[1] The case was in the preliminary-investigation phase, with the presumption of innocence applying until a final sentence.[1]
