Agents of the Specialized Department Against Drug Trafficking and Related Crimes, Canindeyú divisional unit, Section No. 1 Curuguaty, carried out an operation under the SUMAR anti-drug action plan on a rural road on the boundary between Araujo Cué and Acepar.[1] During the operation, after a pursuit, the occupants abandoned a white Toyota Hilux with plate WHFS 499.[1] Antinarcotics officers fired intimidating shots, forcing the occupants to leave the vehicle and flee on foot into a wooded zone.[2] No one was detained in the procedure.[1]
Officers seized 162 packages of suspected pressed marijuana weighing 1,696.9 kilograms, plus 3 kilograms of suspected skunk-type marijuana, along with the vehicle.[1] Última Hora described the load as 152 packages stamped with “Tropado para nunca” alongside Paraguayan and Brazilian flags.[2] Police put the estimated economic loss at G. 516,400,000.[1] All proceedings and the seized evidence were placed at the disposal of the competent authorities.[1]
Investigators are working to determine the load’s origin and possible links to criminal networks trafficking drugs in Paraguay and Brazil.[2]
