Officers of the provincial Guardia di Finanza command in Arezzo seized more than 4 kg of hashish and arrested two people.[1] The two people stopped were one Italian national and one Albanian national.[2][3][4] Officers had flagged two anomalous postal parcels from Spain addressed to a city locker under false names of residents in Arezzo province.[1][3] The two were stopped as they collected the parcels, which concealed 4,140 grams of hashish that officers seized.[1][4] After personal and home searches, officers arrested and reported both people for unlawful production, trafficking and possession of drugs, and both were placed under house arrest.[1][3][4]

The Arezzo group found the parcels by analysing the large daily volume of goods moved by private couriers, which can lend itself to fraudulent use.[1] Officers identified the real recipients through targeted stakeouts.[1] The Guardia di Finanza, Italy’s financial police, said the operation showed its commitment to upholding legality as a force present in the area.[1] The press release was authorised by the Arezzo public prosecutor.[2] The suspects are presumed innocent pending a final judgment.[2]
