Four people suspected of belonging to an organised criminal group were arrested by judicial police in Hussein Dey, an administrative district of Algiers, the Algiers wilaya (province) security directorate said in a statement.[1] The operation was carried out the previous week under the supervision of the public prosecutor with jurisdiction, after police acted on intelligence about the group’s trafficking in psychotropic substances.[1] The investigators’ inquiries identified the four suspects and led to their arrest.[1]

Searches and checks in the case led to the seizure of 72,000 psychotropic tablets, 1.8 kg of treated kif (processed cannabis) and 80 g of cocaine.[1] Police also recovered two electronic scales and 400 million centimes (4 million dinars) in Algerian currency and 1,000 euros in foreign currency.[1] Three vehicles said to have been used to transport the drugs were seized.[1]
