A joint team from Bareskrim’s drug directorate, the North Sumatra and Aceh police, the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), the military, local governments and residents carried out cannabis-field operations across North Sumatra and Aceh.[1] The operation was led by Bareskrim drug director Brigjen Kristian Siagian with BNN acting eradication deputy Brigjen Adri Irniadi.[1] In North Aceh on 27 October 2026, Lhokseumawe police destroyed about 18 hectares at Gampong Teupin Rusep in Sawang and detained four people identified only as S, W, M and HM.[1] Investigators designated three of the four as suspects and released HM for lack of evidence.[1] Police applied articles 114 and 111 of the Narcotics Law to the suspects, which carry a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment.[1]
Police put the total area destroyed across both provinces at 122.86 hectares.[1] In North Sumatra, officers found about five hectares at Tor (Bukit) Sihite in Rao Rao Dolok village, Tambangan, Mandailing Natal, on 31 October, holding about 150,000 cannabis plants aged about five to six months.[1] Officers burned those plants on the spot.[1] The Mandailing Natal find began with a public tip on 29 October about suspected planting at Tor Sihite.[1] Police listed about 77 hectares destroyed at Blang Meurande and Beutong Ateuh-Benggala in Nagan Raya on 31 October.[1] Police also listed about two hectares destroyed in Pidie on 1 November and about 25 hectares by Lhokseumawe police on 2 November.[1] Police added about 0.04 hectares uprooted in Bener Meriah and about 0.7 hectares handled in Aceh Besar, both on 1 November.[1]
Police said the eradication was intended to break the narcotics distribution chain at its production source.[1]
