A US citizen accused of operating a remote-controlled Kush cultivation laboratory in Dhaka’s Wari from California was arrested by the Department of Narcotics Control, the DNC, on 1 November 2026.[1][2] Intelligence officers arrested Tausif Hasan, 22, at his residence on Rankin Street in Wari at around 9am, recovering 10 yaba tablets, 100 grammes of cannabis and equipment used to consume the drugs.[1][2]
Yaba is a methamphetamine-based tablet, not cannabis; the cannabis component of this mixed case stands separately supported at 100 grammes, and the yaba is excluded from the figures above.[1][2] A subsequent drug test detected both methamphetamine and cannabinoids in his blood.[1][2]
The DNC’s Dhaka intelligence deputy director, Mehedi Hasan, confirmed the arrest and said a case had been filed against Tausif under the Narcotics Control Act at Wari Police Station for possessing the recovered drugs.[1][2] The DNC is also processing his arrest in the earlier Kush laboratory case and plans to seek remand for interrogation.[1][2] During preliminary questioning, Tausif admitted supplying yaba and Kush to various drug dealers in Dhaka.[1][2]
According to the DNC, the investigation began after an attempt in January to smuggle yaba to the United States through an international courier service.[1] A subsequent raid at Tausif’s Wari residence uncovered a specialised laboratory for cultivating Kush, the DNC’s term for high-potency cannabis.[1][2] The raid yielded Kush seeds brought from California, cultivated plants, freshly harvested Kush, cultivation equipment, shisha-smoking accessories and foreign liquor, with several pots of Kush plants inside a temperature-controlled rooftop room built with tin sheets and foil paper.[1][2]
Investigators found that Tausif had learned Kush cultivation techniques while living in California before returning to Bangladesh and setting up the laboratory at his home, remotely controlling its temperature and monitoring operations while abroad with help from a female friend.[1][2] Using a false identity, the woman allegedly tried to send 32 yaba tablets to the United States through a courier service; the DNC seized the consignment and arrested her and Tausif’s house caretaker, in a case filed with Tongi West Police Station naming Tausif as a fugitive accused.[1][2]
