Detectives from Chile’s Investigative Police (PDI) detained five people and raided four homes in Villa Alemana in an anti-drug operation.[1] Police describe the suspects as members of a family group dedicated to selling drugs in the commune.[1] All five detainees are Chilean citizens and adults.[1] On the prosecution’s instructions, the five were to be brought before the Villa Alemana Guarantee Court for a detention-control hearing.[1]

Officers seized 138 grams of cannabis in the searches.[1] They also seized 551 grams of cocaine hydrochloride and 245 grams of caffeine, which police describe as a substance commonly used to cut drugs.[1] The PDI put the combined seizure’s approximate value at 17 million pesos.[1] Detectives also seized a Mercedes Benz A250, six mobile phones, a laptop, four security cameras and a digital recording device.[1] Cash was also seized, but the amount was not disclosed.[1]

The operation was carried out by the Modelo Territorial Cero (MT-0) unit in Villa Alemana under the direction of the Valparaíso ECOH-SAC prosecutor’s office.[1] Officers entered the four homes under court-authorized entry and search warrants.[1] Police said the detainees have prior records for drug-law offences, less-serious injuries and robbery with violence, without specifying which record belongs to whom.[1] No result of the detention-control hearing or any precautionary measures was reported.[1]
