Drug-control officers from the Tula region Interior Ministry, working with Belev police, searched a 32-year-old local man’s flat in Belev on 16 October 2026, the Tula news wire reported.[1] They seized plant material and more than 100 cannabis plants.[1]

Expert testing at the regional forensic centre identified the dried material as marijuana weighing at least 459 grams, a large amount under Russian law.[2] The man told officers he had grown and stored the plants only for personal use and not for sale.[1]

Investigators opened a criminal case under part 2 of article 228 of the Criminal Code for large-scale possession.[2] A judge ordered him not to leave his place of residence while the case continues.[1]
