Officers of the anti-drug directorate of the St Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast police detained a 36-year-old resident of Mondelevo, a village in the Gatchina district.[1][2] In two neighbouring houses on his dacha plots they found growboxes with artificial lighting, ventilation and watering systems.[1][2]

The houses held 89 cannabis bushes and about 17.5 kilograms of ready plant mass, part of it already packed into sacks; officers also seized electronic scales and packaging.[1][2]

Tests confirmed the presence of a drug in the plants.[1] The Gatchina police opened a criminal case for attempted especially large-scale sale of drugs, and the man was placed in a temporary detention centre.[1][2] Police were looking for possible accomplices and further episodes.[1]
