Carabinieri stopped a gold-coloured Mercedes B-Class in the centre of San Felice a Cancello carrying a 51-year-old driver from Torre del Greco and a 71-year-old passenger from the Naples area already known to police.[1] The 51-year-old, described as a repeat offender, was arrested on Saturday afternoon.[1] The local-station stop was made under Sergeant Olindo Camassa, and the passenger was a 71-year-old man from the Naples area already known to the authorities.[1] The 51-year-old was taken to Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison, while the 71-year-old passenger was dealt with separately and no measures were taken against him.[1] A second account confirms the 51-year-old Naples-area resident with prior drug-trafficking offences was arrested in flagrante and later transferred to Santa Maria Capua Vetere at the disposal of the judiciary.[2]

Search of the car revealed a secret compartment in the rear boot designed to evade a superficial check.[1] Inside the hidden compartment were a sealed package with about 200 grams of pure cocaine and another package with about 100 grams of hashish, about 300 grams of drugs in total described as ready for street sale.[1] The second account likewise reports about 200 grams of cocaine and a second package with about 100 grams of hashish for a total of about 300 grams.[2] Officers found 1,415 euros in cash in the 51-year-old’s pockets.[1]

The Maddaloni Operational and Radiomobile unit, supported by colleagues from Naples, immediately extended the checks to the homes involved and found another 8,610 euros in carefully hidden cash, handwritten notes seen as detailed accounts of the trafficking, and three smartphones now being examined to reconstruct the contact network.[1] In total 10,025 euros in cash was seized along with the drugs and mobile phones.[1]
