Police raided Nimcha in Raniganj on Tuesday night on a tip-off and recovered ganja said to be worth about one lakh rupees.[1][2] Police arrested 48-year-old Joginder Bhagat on a ganja-trafficking allegation.[1][2][3] The raiding team belonged to the Nimcha outpost under Raniganj police station of the Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate.[4][3] The team was led by Nimcha outpost in-charge LSI Nasrin Sultana, who first caught Bhagat and then questioned him.[1][2]

Police said he had brought ganja from outside and was preparing to move it elsewhere for trafficking.[1][2][3] During questioning he admitted storing the ganja in an abandoned house near his home.[1][2][3] Police cordoned off that house, searched it with him present and recovered the stock kept in several plastic buckets.[1][2] On weighing, the haul was about 1 kg 600 g, which police said he had stored for trafficking outside the area.[4][3]

He was to be produced before the CJM court at Asansol district court on Wednesday, with police seeking seven days of police remand for further questioning.[1][2][3] Police said he had previously been arrested in a ganja-trafficking case in the commissionerate’s Jamuria area.[1][2][3] Police said the action was part of a continuing drive against drug trafficking across the commissionerate.[1] Police said they were working to trace where the ganja came from and where it was to be sent.[1][3]

Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate DC Central Dhruv Das said sustained naka checking and raids had produced recoveries in Jamuria and Raniganj.[2][3]
