Rural Anti-Narcotics Wing officers detained Sarfaraz Hussain Pir Muhammad, a native of Uttar Pradesh living in a room at Hard Machine Tools near Gate No. 3 of Metoda GIDC.[1] They stopped him near the Ahaba Pir shrine on the road from Khirsara Palace toward Motavada village, where he stood suspiciously holding a backpack that held ganja.[1] Officers caught the suspected carrier before he could deliver the ganja to a peddler and opened an inquiry to trace the receiver.[1] Police said he had bought the ganja from an unidentified man near the railway track in Surat, and they were still investigating where it was to be supplied.[1]

Officers seized 1.686 kg of ganja valued by police at Rs 84,300, plus a mobile phone, for total seized property worth Rs 89,300.[1]

Rajkot rural superintendent Vijay Singh Gurjar had ordered action against drug sellers and buyers under the Say No To Drugs campaign, and the patrol was led by Anti-Narcotics Wing in-charge J. A. Khachar with G. J. Jhala and other personnel.[1] The team was patrolling the Metoda GIDC area in a private Swift car when it spotted the suspect.[2]
