Officers of the Customs Committee’s anti-smuggling department, working with State Security Service officers, found nearly 95 kg of hashish in Qibray district of Tashkent region, committee press secretary Husan Tangriyev told Gazeta.[1][2]

Four farm sacks hidden among trees in a field held 109 packages of hashish.[1][2] Officers kept the area under surveillance for several days to identify anyone coming to collect the drugs.[1]

Eight days later, two people who arrived to collect the narcotics were identified and detained.[1][2] During the investigation, the person who had ordered the drugs hidden there and later collected was also identified and detained; he had previously faced a criminal case opened by the Customs Committee over petrol smuggling.[1]

A criminal case was opened over the large consignment.[1][2] Experts estimated the hashish at 700,000 single doses, and said its black-market value could have exceeded $10 million had it reached end consumers.[1][2]
