Uzbek customs officers exposed an attempt to bring a large quantity of drugs from Afghanistan into Uzbekistan through the Ayritom border post in Surxondaryo region, the press secretary of the Customs Committee chairman reported.[1]
At about 22:30 on 1 October 2026, an empty truck arriving from Afghanistan at the Ayritom post was put through customs control.[1][2] A sniffer dog’s alert on the vehicle aroused the suspicion of the customs officers, after which the truck — driven by a citizen of Termiz district born in 1993 — was put through in-depth customs inspection.[1]
Under the floor of the trailer, officers found 98 packages hidden away: 79 of them held 42 kilograms 335 grams of hashish, and 19 held 10 kilograms 260 grams of opium, for a total of 52 kilograms 595 grams including packaging.[1][2] The packages had been wrapped in four layers of plastic, foil and tape to make them harder to detect by scanners and X-ray machines.[2] Specialists estimated the haul at almost 340,000 doses.[1]
The seizure was made jointly by customs officers, Border Troops servicemen, and representatives of the State Security Service and internal affairs bodies.[1][2] Procedural measures on the case were underway.[1]
