Military police officers arrested a 61-year-old man for drug trafficking on the night of Monday 2 November in the Jardim Europa area, in the Areal neighbourhood of Pelotas.[1][2] The Brigada Militar reported the seizure figures for the operation.[1] The man, whose identity was not published, was taken with the seized material to the Civil Police.[1][2] Areal is the bairro, the Portuguese word for neighbourhood, named as the location within Pelotas.[1]

According to the Brigada Militar, officers seized 1,006 kilos of marijuana, known in Brazil as maconha.[1][2] In the same action officers also seized 5.3 kilos of crack, which is mentioned here only to explain the mixed seizure and is not counted as cannabis.[1] Officers also seized more than 107,000 reais in cash, three precision scales, a mobile phone and a pickup truck in the same action.[1][2] Police described the overall haul as more than one tonne of drugs, plus money and other materials.[1]
