The Joint Task Force South (FTC Sur), with soldiers from the Military
Intelligence Battalion, destroyed illegal marijuana plantations in the San
Lorenzo community of San Pedro del Paraná district, Itapúa, on 31 October 2026.[1][2][3]The operation was carried out at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s
Office, under prosecutor Rocío Valdez of the specialised anti-drug unit.[1][2]
Prosecutors are investigating a suspected criminal organisation that the
operation’s participants say was buying weapons with proceeds from drug
trafficking.[1][2]
Officers destroyed three hectares of plants, a makeshift camp and 5 kg of
seeds, and burned 300 kg of chopped marijuana stacked in bags.[1][2][3]The total
destroyed was 9,300 kg of marijuana, the authorities said.[1][2][3]
They estimated the organisations would lose about USD 1,350,000 in sales on the
foreign market.[1][2]
The task force works under the Internal Defence Operations Command (CODI), which
supports the Public Prosecutor’s Office against organised crime.[1]The
reports did not say who owned the land or whether anyone was detained.[1][2]
