Morocco’s national police (DGSN) and the customs administration (ADII) seized 238 kg of cannabis resin at the port of Tanger Med on the evening of Monday 28 September 2026.[1] Officers found the resin hidden in the trailer of a foreign-registered van.[1] The driver was arrested at the scene.[1]

He is a Belgian national of Moroccan origin.[1] He was placed under a judicial investigation supervised by the competent public prosecutor.[1] Checks at the border post preceded his handover to investigators, who hold the material gathered in the search of the vehicle.[1] The inquiry is to establish who else was involved in moving the load and to determine the activity’s suspected reach in Morocco and abroad.[1] Le Soir, citing HLN and Moroccan media, reported that the driver was being questioned.[2] The case could involve a larger international trafficking network, the same account said.[2] The van, its papers and its route are the first supports of those checks.[1]

The resin had been divided among cavities cut inside the trailer’s structure, a method that left the load’s exterior appearance intact and delayed discovery of the packages.[1] The border search recovered all 238 kg and officers seized the vehicle.[1] Tanger Med is the main road-freight crossing between Morocco and Europe, where exit checks concentrate on lorries and vans boarding for Spain.[1] Police and customs there run checks against international trafficking in narcotics and psychotropic substances.[1]
