Police in Mersin detained Y.K. and H.B., two suspected street dealers known in Turkey as torbacı, in an operation coordinated by the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.[1][2][3][4] Police said the two were among the suspects their teams had identified before the operation.[1] The operation was run by the anti-narcotics branch of the provincial police directorate.[1][2][3] Officers searched the two suspects’ persons and homes.[5][2][3][4] The searches found various amounts of synthetic drugs and esrar, the Turkish name for cannabis.[1][2][3][4] The DHA news agency reported that police carried out an operation at an address where the pair were hiding.[6] It said officers seized a large quantity of drugs and cash there.[6]

The two were taken to police headquarters, where their statements were taken, and then brought to the courthouse.[1][2] DHA reported that the pair were sent to court on drug-trafficking charges.[6] A court ordered them held in pre-trial detention — tutuklama, the order that keeps a suspect in custody pending trial — and they were taken to prison.[5][3][4]
