Police in Malatya detained a suspected street-level cannabis dealer after searching his person and his address.[1][2] The searches turned up 2 kg 50 g of esrar, the Turkish name for cannabis, and one unlicensed rifle.[1][3][2] The suspect was taken into custody and his processing at the police station was continuing.[4][2]

The Malatya provincial police directorate said in a statement that its Narkotik Suçlarla Mücadele Şube Müdürlüğü — the narcotics branch — had searched the man after physical and technical surveillance of street sellers.[4][3][2] The statement put the seizure at 2 kg 50 g of cannabis and one unlicensed rifle.[4][3] Malatya Haber, a local news site, reported that police had confiscated the cannabis and the rifle.[5]

The word torbacı, used in the local reports for the targets, refers to the street-level dealers who sell drugs to users.[5] Malatya Haber said police had identified the man as selling drugs before he was caught with the cannabis and the rifle.[5]

The provincial police said the searches took place on 30 October 2026.[3]
