Police in Yıldırım, a district of Bursa, found a cannabis grow in the basement of a butcher’s shop converted into a grow room with climate-control and lighting equipment.[1][2][3][4][5] They detained a suspect identified only by the initials A.T.; after questioning at the police station he was taken to court, where a judge ordered him held in pre-trial detention, known in Turkey as tutuklama.[6][2][4] He was sent to prison after the court order.[1][2][3]

Officers seized 114 cannabis plants in pots, 1 kg 885 g of esrar (cannabis) in four transparent bags, another 105 g in two bags and 924 g of cannabis left to dry, along with the climate-control and lighting equipment, liquid fertilisers and chemicals.[6][2][3][4] İhlas Haber Ajansı put the esrar total at 1 kg 990 g.[1][4][5]

The operation followed about a month of physical surveillance, after which police said the basement had been converted into a cannabis greenhouse and cannabis grown there was prepared for sale at another address.[6] It was run by Yıldırım district police teams working against drug manufacture and trafficking.[1][2][3][4][5] Searches were carried out at several addresses under a decision by judicial authorities.[1][2][3]
