Gendarmerie officers detained four people in Aksaray city centre after searching two addresses, their homes and their persons.[1] A court ordered three of them held in pre-trial detention, known in Turkey as tutuklama, and released the fourth under judicial control.[1] The three jailed were named by initials as M.V., 29, M.K., 35, and F.D., 29.[2]

The searches found 1,134 synthetic pharmaceutical pills, an unlicensed pistol, 45 grams of methamphetamine and 21 grams of synthetic cannabinoid, known in Turkey as bonzai.[1] At the homes of M.V. and M.K. and in the vehicle F.D. used, officers also found 2,320 grams of kubar esrar, a cannabis preparation also called hashish.[3]

The operation was run by the Aksaray provincial gendarmerie’s narcotics branch and the central district gendarmerie.[3] The Aksaray Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office coordinated the investigation, and the suspects had been under technical and physical surveillance before the raids.[1] DHA described the operation as aimed at people selling drugs on the street.[2]
