A.R.A., 48, was at the wheel when gendarmerie officers stopped his car at the Mersin Gişeleri toll booths, the city’s motorway toll plaza, on 29 October 2026.[1] Officers acted on information that the car, plate 44 ABY 169, was carrying drugs from Malatya to Mersin.[1] A search of the car found 2 kg 900 g of kubar esrar, a cannabis preparation.[1] A.R.A. was detained after the search.[2]

Proceedings were started over the seized cannabis.[1] A.R.A. was processed under Article 188 of the Turkish Penal Code, which covers drug manufacture and trafficking.[1] He was brought before the judicial authorities, where a court ordered him held in pre-trial detention — tutuklama, the order that keeps a suspect in custody pending trial.[1] He was then sent to Mersin E Type Closed Prison.[1]

The operation involved the highway gendarmerie company and the provincial anti-narcotics branch.[1] Provincial gendarmerie teams put the car under surveillance as it drove from Malatya towards Mersin.[2]
