Police detained five people in two searches in Alanya, a district of Antalya province, and a court ordered two of them held in pre-trial detention.[1] The first search targeted a hotel staff residence — a lojman, housing provided by an employer — in the Saray neighbourhood, where officers found 46 grams of esrar, the cannabis preparation known in Turkey.[1] They detained M.A. (22), E.Y. (26), M.K.Y. (33) and S.S. (24) at that address.[1]

A second search, at a house in the Kızlarpınarı neighbourhood, found 25 cannabis plants growing in pots.[1] Officers detained O.Ö. (45), who was in the house.[1] Police described the house as one the suspect had turned into a cannabis garden.[2] All five were questioned at the police station and taken to the courthouse, where they were processed on allegations of drug trafficking and drug use.[1]

The court released E.Y., M.K.Y. and S.S. under judicial control, a measure that leaves a suspect free while the case proceeds.[1] M.A. and O.Ö. were ordered held in pre-trial detention and sent to Alanya’s L-type closed prison.[1]
