Police in Ceyhan, a district of Adana province, mounted an operation against drug trafficking at a specified address in the Çiftlikler neighbourhood.[1] A police search of the address turned up 8 kg 562 g of cannabis, the drug known in Turkey as esrar, hidden in various places, together with a precision scale.[2] Officers detained two suspects.[2] After questioning at the police station the pair were taken to the courthouse, where a magistrates’ court ordered them held in pre-trial detention — tutuklama, the order that keeps a suspect in custody pending trial.[2] Both were then sent to prison to await trial.[3]

The operation was run by the narcotics bureau of the Ceyhan district police directorate, the Narkotik Suçlarla Mücadele Büro Amirliği.[1] The cannabis was packed in three bidons (large plastic containers) holding 1,600 g, four black bin bags holding 6,800 g and seven packets holding 162 g, which together make up the 8 kg 562 g total.[1] The investigation into the case was continuing.[3]
