A Leland man was sentenced on 29 October to 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to marijuana distribution and firearm charges.[1] The man was 28-year-old Malcolm Patterson.[1] The sentencing was reported from Oxford.[1] U.S. District Judge James D. Maxwell imposed the sentence.[1] Patterson had previously pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.[1] He had also pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.[1] Maxwell also ordered three years of supervised release after the prison term.[1] Patterson was taken into U.S. Marshals Service custody after the sentencing.[1] The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Mississippi announced the sentence.[1]
The Greenville Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case.[1] Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Mims prosecuted the case.[1] Greenville Police Chief Marcus R. Turner Sr. said the sentence reflected cooperation among investigators and federal prosecutors.[1] Turner said his department’s responsibility does not end when the handcuffs go on.[1] He said the department is committed to building solid cases that result in meaningful accountability.[1]
